Arquitetura na Periferia
We donate 5 % of each sale (Tapioca flour) to Arquitetura na Periferia
Since March 2021, we have worked in close cooperation with Arquitetura na Periferia, a social project supporting women in poor neighborhoods into better and dignified housing in Brazil, by enabling these disadvantaged women to build their own houses, providing support in design, construction planning and microfinance.
Rather than offering a product, Arquitetura na Periferia encourages women’s empowerment, expanding their ability to analyze, discuss, plan and collaborate, ultimately leading to greater self-esteem and confidence. Brazil is one of the countries in the world with the greatest social inequality, meaning that a large percenage of the population has little access to these services. In this scenario, many people build their homes without access to contracting or technical training, resulting in houses being built with scarce resources in unsafe and dangerous places.
Women living in this situation are greatly affected as they spend lots of time doing housework and taking care of the family, but when it comes to decisions on how to build the house, they don’t have a word. This fact has a huge impact on the lives of these women – from a kitchen without adequate ventilation, or a room with a lot of humidity that makes their children sick, to construction details such as very narrow stairs.
Arquitetura na Periferia has already helped more than 300 women to have a better home and Tapiocaria Swiss Market is happy to contribute.
